Phlebotomy Clinic

We regularly run a phlebotomy clinic for when doctors and nurses require you to have a blood test, and also for long term conditions.

Please be aware that this is only for Worden Medical Centre patients.

Drop in clinics are available at different times throughout the week in different locations. You can find the timetable by clicking the link below.

Blood Pressure

If you think you need your blood pressure checking, please give us a call and we can book you an appointment with our Health Care Assistant. If you’re aged 45 or over and haven’t had a BP check in the last 5 years, please pop into the surgery and we can organise you a blood pressure check.

You can also request blood pressure checks in local Pharmacies.

Pharmacy First Scheme and Minor Ailments Scheme

The Minor Ailment Scheme underwent an overhaul on the 31st January 2024 and became the ‘Pharmacy First and Minor Ailments Scheme’

The previous Minor Ailment Scheme still exists and is for people who do not pay for their prescription (including children), and allows them to receive advice and medicines for a range of minor ailments, free of charge without having to visit their GP first.

The Pharmacy First Scheme now allows us to refer patients to a community pharmacy of their choice, receive a consultation from a trained healthcare professional at the pharmacy, and then receive treatment (including antibiotics) if appropriate.

To access a Pharmacy First appointment you MUST ring the surgery and ask for a Pharmacy First community pharmacy referral.

To access the Minor Ailment scheme, you just need to go to your community pharmacy – you don’t need an appointment for this but you can only access the scheme if you do not pay for your prescriptions.

Minor ailments include:

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Cold sores
  • Constipation
  • Cough/Cold/Fever
  • Cystitis
  • Dermatitis
  • Diarrhoea
  • Earache
  • Hay fever

Baby Clinic

The Child Health Surveillance or ‘Baby Clinic’ is run by a GP and a Practice Nurse in order to provide a programme of health, vaccinations and developmental checks for babies up to the age of 13 months. The clinic is held every Tuesday between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. You should automatically receive notification of appointments, but if you wish to change or cancel these, please contact the practice.

A baby weighing service is available at:

The Zone, West Paddock, Leyland, PR25 1HR; Fridays 9.30-11.45am (Drop-in Clinic)

Pre school vaccinations are performed at the practice; an appointment will be sent automatically when due.

If you need to contact a Health Visitor, they are available on 03002470040

Post Natal Appointments

We like to see you post natally at approximately 8 weeks. You can make an appointment to see one of the GPs. It will be a double appointment

Travel Clinic

Travel Clinics are available for our patients who require basic travel vaccinations. These appointments must be planned well in advance, approximately 10-12 weeks before you travel. If you travel in under 6 weeks you will need to contact a private travel clinic.

To book an appointment, please ask at reception for a Travel Questionnaire (or you can click on the form below to print and complete) – this questionnaire must be returned to us and we will contact you in due time to book your travel appointment. Please note that some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge (travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS).

If you require a Yellow Fever Vaccination, we no longer offer this at the surgery. This service is now offered by certain community pharmacies and also dedicated private travel clinics.

If you plan to travel through multiple countries, have booked on an adventure style holiday, or are travelling at short notice (under 10 weeks) you should contact one of the following:

Minor Surgery

A wide range of skin lesions and small surgical problems can be dealt with in the practice. If you have any concerns over any type of skin lesion you may have, please make an appointment with the doctor who will assess and advise on further treatment.

Dr Kelsall performs the minor surgery procedures.

Flu Clinics

Flu vaccinations are available from September each year. You are eligible for a flu vaccination if you are over 65 or are under 65 with a long term condition eg; diabetes, heart disease etc. You are also eligible if you are a carer.

Children aged 2 years old and above are also eligible for a flu vaccination.

Please watch for further information on the website or in the surgery about booking a flu appointment.

Clinics will be held from September onwards every year. Information on these will be published in the Practice News.

Health Checks & Screening

We offer an accessible service of routine health checks for both sexes, and encourage screening where appropriate (including cervical smears for women). We will also invite you to a health check screening if you are aged between 40 and 74 and have no long term conditions. Prevention is always better than cure and we can also help you to give up smoking and lose weight if required. These appointment times are flexible to suit your needs.

We also encourage bowel screening in both genders, abdominal aortic aneurysm in men and breast screening for women. Invites for these health checks are sent out by the NHS, and you will receive an invite letter when you reach a certain age.

Diabetes, Heart Disease, Respiratory and Hypertension Clinics

These clinics are run by our specially trained Healthcare Professionals who will review and monitor you, in conjunction with the doctors. Education is an important aspect of your care, and we are here to support you; please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
